Manufacturer: Alkem
Pharmaceutical name: Amoxicillin
Pack: 10 pills (250 mg)
Almox is a broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the aminopenicillin class. Its antibacterial action is based on inhibiting the construction of cell walls in bacteria that are sensitive to Amoxicillin. These cell walls are essential for protecting bacteria from their environment, and the action of Amoxicillin hampers their ability to multiply.
Amoxicillin is effective against H. influenzae, N. gonorrhoeae, E. coli, Pneumococci, Streptococci, and some strains of Staphylococci. However, microorganisms that produce penicillase can resist Amoxicillin. Almox does not target mycobacteria, mycoplasmas, the Rickettsia genus, fungi, amoeba, plasmodium, viruses, or Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Proteus spp. (with the exception of P. mirabilis).
Use Almox strictly as prescribed by your physician. Inform your doctor prior to taking Almox if you have allergies to cephalosporins, a history of asthma, significant liver or kidney impairment, bleeding or blood clotting disorders, mononucleosis, or any form of allergic reactions. Almox can be taken with or without food. Chew the chewable tablet thoroughly before swallowing, and swallow Almox whole with a glass of water.
Almox may reduce the effectiveness of certain contraceptive medications. It is important to continue taking Almox even if you feel well, as bacteria have specific life cycles. Stopping Almox prematurely may lead to the continued propagation and development of resistant strains. Do not administer this medication to others who exhibit similar symptoms, as their illness may be caused by a different type of microorganism. Antibiotics can lead to diarrhea; inform your doctor if this occurs. If you are breastfeeding while taking Almox, it may be passed into breast milk and cause diarrhea in your infant. Notify your doctor if you have asthma.
In addition to allergic reactions (such as hives, swelling, and rash), possible side effects of Almox include diarrhea, dizziness, heartburn, insomnia, nausea, itching, vomiting, confusion, abdominal pain, and easy bruising.
Almox is not known to affect the efficacy of birth control pills but can increase the absorption of digoxin and the toxicity of methotrexate. The excretion of Almox via the kidneys is slowed by aspirin.
Do not take a double dose of Almox. If it is nearly time for your next dose, simply skip the missed dose and continue with your prescribed schedule.
Symptoms of an Almox overdose might include vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, and disturbances in water and electrolyte balance. Seek medical assistance if you experience these symptoms.
